I am the president of a club at Mountain View High School called the Study Tools at Mountain View club. Clubs at Mountain View have opportunities to host community events, and my club and I decided that we should try to do one since it would be beneficial to not only increasing teamwork amongst us, but also influencing the community around us.
The community event we decided on was a Scratch presentation for elementary school students. We will be creating an intro presentation of Scratch that elementary school students can use in order to learn about the basics of Scratch, or as enrichment to their prior knowledge. We will have a live commentary video on it with a live chat, so students can ask questions and we can respond. If students miss the video, they can leave their questions in the comments section. We will provide a link to the Scratch slides in the video in the description of the video.
Our goal through this project was to promote school values by allowing students to enrich their knowledge of Scratch, or by allowing them to learn the basics of Scratch.
Additionally, we as a club saw this as a good team-building activity we could all work on. This is because we had to each pitch in to the workload; the work on the slides had to be equally divided up, everyone had to commentate over the slides, and someone had to be a designated editor (it ended up being me). By using this event to see everyone’s strengths and weaknesses, our club is now more prepared for future tasks, all while helping elementary students learn.
